The controversial yet undoubtedly hugely successful film Trainspotting certainly grabbed the attention of the public with its shocking plot line and characters. The hard-hitting film that is Hard Candy reverses the audiences’ expectations of what unravels in the plot. By reversing the male predator vs. vulnerable young female stereotype, Hard Candy presents the audience with a sense of irony.  This creativity and imagination isn’t spared on the films poster either; featuring Ellen Page’s character in the jaws of an oversized metal trap, her bright red hoodie makes it an image ironically reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hood.

Released back in 1999 American Beauty is no less striking and thought provoking as we find ourselves looking back over 10 years in remembering a Hollywood classic.
